Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 12, 2026
Midwest Creation Studio LLC ("we," "us") built the Orien app as a free iOS application. This Privacy Policy explains what information Orien accesses, how it is used, and what is never collected.
Summary
Orien does not transmit any personal data off your device. There are no analytics, no advertising, no third-party trackers, and no servers receiving your information.
What Orien accesses (and what stays on your device)
Camera and face tracking
Orien uses your device's front camera and Apple's ARKit framework to track your face and eye movements. This is the core function of the app.
- Face tracking happens entirely on-device.
- No video, no images, no face mesh data, and no biometric data is ever recorded, stored, transmitted, or shared.
- The camera feed is processed in memory for gaze detection and discarded immediately.
Contacts
If you grant access, Orien reads your device contacts so you can call or message them hands-free.
- Contacts are read only as needed to display them inside the app.
- Contacts are never transmitted off your device.
- You can revoke access in iOS Settings at any time.
Photos
If you grant access, Orien reads your photo library so you can browse photos and videos hands-free.
- Orien requests photo library access solely to display your photos inside the app for hands-free browsing.
- Photos and videos are never transmitted off your device.
- Orien does not modify, delete, or upload photos. It can hide a selected photo from Orien's own gallery using a local list of photo asset IDs; the photo remains in the system Photos library. Apple's Photos framework requires the
readWritepermission level to read existing photos. There is no separate read-only level, but Orien only reads from the library.
Speech output
Orien uses Apple's on-device speech synthesizer (AVSpeechSynthesizer) to read your selections aloud. No speech audio is recorded or transmitted.
Local settings storage
The following settings are stored locally on your device using iOS UserDefaults:
- Your chosen name (used only for greetings inside the app)
- Your chosen voice
- Your gaze speed and sensitivity preferences
- Tutorial completion state
- A list of photo asset IDs you've hidden from view (a local filter only; your actual photos are not modified)
This information stays on your device. We have no servers and cannot access it.
What Orien does NOT collect
- We do not collect personal information.
- We do not use analytics services.
- We do not use advertising identifiers.
- We do not use third-party tracking SDKs.
- We do not run a backend server that receives data from the app.
- We do not access or transmit facial mapping data, even though we use ARKit.
If a selected photo or video is stored in iCloud rather than on the device, Apple's Photos framework may retrieve it through the user's iCloud account. Orien does not operate or receive data from that transfer.
This commitment is consistent with Apple's App Review Guideline 5.1.2, which prohibits the use of ARKit/Camera/Photo APIs for marketing, advertising, or data mining.
Children's privacy
Orien is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone. Because Orien does not collect data at all, this category of users is protected by default.
Third parties
Orien does not integrate with third-party services that receive your data. Apple's iOS frameworks (ARKit, Contacts, Photos, AVFoundation) operate on-device.
If you use Orien's hands-free messaging feature, the iOS Messages app (provided by Apple) takes over to send the message. We do not transmit message content; iOS does, under Apple's own privacy policies.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be announced in the app or via the support email below.
