Common questions

Which iPhones does Orien work on?

Orien needs iOS 17 or later and an iPhone with Face ID, because it uses the Face ID camera to follow your eyes. That's iPhone XR, XS or any newer model with Face ID. iPhone SE models won't work. Orien checks your phone when it opens and tells you if it isn't supported. iPad isn't supported yet.

Is Orien free?

Yes. Every way to communicate in Orien is free, and always will be. Optional extras may come later, but they'll never lock the ways you communicate.

Does Orien record me?

No. Orien processes face tracking on your phone only. No video, images, face mesh data or biometric data is ever recorded, stored, sent or shared. See the privacy policy for details.

I said no to camera access. How do I turn it on?

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and tap Orien.
  3. Turn Camera on.
  4. Open Orien again.

The eye tracking feels too fast or too slow.

In Orien, go to Settings (on the left side of the third page of the main menu) and choose Speed. You can pick Standard, Fast, Expert or Instant.

You can also change Sensitivity in Settings to fine tune how the gaze cursor responds.

Orien speaks too fast, or I want a different voice.

In Settings, choose Voice. You can pick any English voice installed on your iPhone. To add more voices, open the iPhone Settings app, then go to Accessibility, Spoken Content, Voices.

I want to restart the tutorial.

In Settings, choose Tutorial. It replays the guided walkthrough.

Tracking isn't picking up my eyes.

Speech isn't working.

Can I use Orien in an emergency?

Please don't. Orien is a communication aid, not an emergency system. In an emergency, call 911 or use your iPhone's Emergency SOS: press and hold the side button and either volume button until the slider appears.
